Director – Commercial Delivery Practices


The Director of Commercial Delivery Practice position is a key leadership role in the Commercial Technology Portfolio and will be responsible for the transformation and enablement of Agile practices within the Commercial Technology Portfolio. Expanding and building capabilities that the organization can leverage to shift left and accelerate delivery of products with highest quality and fidelity. It is critical that this role establish and maintain strong relationships with both senior and operating level leaders and be the key interface point of contact with those partners. This role will support execution of the IT and business strategy to mature and accelerate delivery of common patterns for differentiating United from the competition.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Commercial Technology Architecture, the successful candidate will be located at either our Corporate Support Center at Willis Tower in Chicago, IL or Corporate Support Center at our Smith Building in Houston, TX. Approximately 20% of travel will be required for this position


This particular role focuses on delivery and socialization of responsibilities in the Commercial Technology Architecture area including, but not limited to,

  • Partner with Line of Business Product Leaders to provide process and tools in a consistent manner within their teams.

  • Provide Agile development and project management expertise within the portfolio

  • Implement Delivery practices such as Continuous integration and Service Virtualization

  • Implement and support the development tools that are being leveraged across the portfolio

  • Tracking key metrics for the portfolio to measure success

  • Evangelize the architecture and process capabilities across the Commercial organization


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering and/or equivalent work experience required

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems or Engineering preferred



  • 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience

  • At least 5 years of:

  • Leadership experience in instituting software development methodologies and programs that focus on accelerating delivery with process and automation

  • Leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders

  • 3+ years of experience leading the development of large scale enterprise level solutions

  • Advanced technical and business knowledge in software development life cycle, quality assurance, project management and other related disciplines/processes


  • Experience with tools such as Team Foundation Server, HP ALM, GitHub, Artefactory, Service Virtualization


  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
