Director – Commercial Solutions Architecture

Overview

The Director of Commercial Solutions Architecture is a key leadership role in the Commercial Technology portfolio and will be responsible for architecture and design guidance within the portfolio. It is critical that this role establish and maintain strong relationships with both senior and operating level IT leaders and be the key interface point of contact with those partners. This role will support execution of the IT and business strategy to modernize and accelerate delivery of systems for differentiating United from the competition.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Commercial Technology Architecture, the successful candidate will be located at either our Corporate Support Center at Willis Tower in Chicago, IL or Corporate Support Center at our 1600 Smith Building in Houston, TX. Approximately 20% of travel will be required for this position

This role’s responsibilities in the Commercial Technology Architecture area include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with Line Of Business Product Leaders to provide integrated architecture and design with their teams

  • Provide consolidated architectural view of systems in the Commercial Products, including E-Commerce, Mobile, Sales, Revenue Management, and Passenger Service System

  • Provide domain architecture expertise for business capabilities and systems in the Commercial Space

  • Collaborate with LOB application leaders to innovate on new technology implementation

  • Lead and motivate team of domain architects providing vision, direction, and guidance.

  • Partner with Infrastructure Technology Architects, Security Architects, Business Architects and Data Services Architectures to maintain common standards and practices

  • Mentor teams with regards to new technologies and appropriate patterns

  • Ensure quality of application products in the delivery and operational phase

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering and/or equivalent work experience required

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems or Engineering preferred

Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience

  • At least 5 years of:

  • Leadership experience in instituting software development methodologies and programs that focus on accelerating delivery with process and automation

  • Leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders

  • 3+ years of experience leading the development of large scale enterprise level solutions

  • Advanced technical and business knowledge in software development life cycle, quality assurance, project management and other related disciplines/processes

Preferred

  • Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect, UML Modeling, and Data Modeling

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
