Our Infrastructure PMO within IT is the backbone and foundation for the projects that will help transform United for its customers and employees. We are looking for you to assist a strong team of Portfolio/Project Managers to deliver some of the largest, most significant infrastructure projects/programs globally.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Director of Infrastructure Delivery & Execution is responsible and accountable for the delivery of technology solutions within their prescribed portfolio. This role directs the work of solution engineers and program managers with a key focus on designing solutions. Participates in the technical strategy development by sharing expertise in technologies across the team combined with practical experience delivering value quickly and iteratively. Partners closely with other IT areas to determine which solutions will best enable the strategic goals of the business and digital technology organizations.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, deeply technical, process-driven, and have the desire to work in a demanding environment. In addition to team leadership skills, they will have previous experience program managing large complex projects, be an expert in the technology stack, be adept at holding others, including vendors, accountable.

Interfaces:

• Directs, coordinates and evaluates the work of solution engineering and project management teams

• Helps others embrace modern technology stacks and development methods, while still focusing on the right solution for a given need

• Knows security and compliance requirements and ensures they are incorporated into every solution

• Reviews and is responsible for departmental budgets and resource allocations

• Partners with various functional teams across the business and IT departments to support strategic enterprise vision and design

• Reports directly to the MD of Infrastructure Project Management Office

Delivery/Support :

• Manages and prioritizes the work of the solution engineering and project management teams

• Ensures engineering solutions are clearly communicated for implementation

• Ensures compliance of architectural and engineering policies, standards and procedures

• Monitors and stay abreast of industry trends and anticipate future direction for system platforms

Organizational Effectiveness/People:

• Provides leadership by ensuring department and individuals goals are met

• Manages talent utilizing HR supplied recognition tools and participates in workforce planning, staffing, and development

• Participates in assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles and responsibilities

• Responsible for individual performance assessments and improvement plans

• Responsible for coaching, counseling, assisting employees to develop individual career development and training plans

IT Process and Management

• Accountable for administrative management of IT professionals, either as direct reports or sourced

• Defines, prioritize, allocate resources, track and provide status reporting of work assignments, projects, programs

• Ensures IT process disciplines (solution delivery, project management, work requests, QA, etc.) and standards are effectively managed and performed

• Provides information and periodic updates to support departmental IT performance metrics, monthly project status reporting and quarterly resource planning review

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or other related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training

• Communication Skills, Integrity and Trust, Teamwork , Technical Expertise, Flexibility, Problem Solving, Task Management

• 10 years of IT experience including 5 years in Information Technology management, or Six years applicable experience in enterprise architecture

• Recognized expertise in field – in industry and/or within United

• Proven expertise in leading and influencing technical staff or coordinating work across multiple technology teams

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
