Information Technology Overview

The Information Technology division is composed of over 2,500 employees and contractors, and is made up of four portfolios:

  • Airline Operations & Shared Services

  • IT Business Management, Strategy & Architecture

  • Commercial & Customer

  • IT Operations & Service Management

The Information Technology division provides the unique opportunity to engage with all of United’s operational and business units.

Responsibilities

Internship opportunities will be available across all four portfolios. Placement within the division will be determined during the selection process, depending on the candidate’s background and best fit. Tasks will vary by group and may include the following:

  • Employee website content development

  • Mobile phone application development

  • Improving Production Pipelines

  • Database Administration and functional testing

  • Administration Mileage Plus/Loyalty Systems

  • Entry Level Project Management

  • Technical Drawings and Documentation

Education

  • Applicant must be a current undergraduate student with a Junior standing or above, planning to graduate between December of 2018 or May of 2019 required

  • Students from all fields of study will be considered, although coursework or experience in Computer Science, Engineering or Management Information Systems is preferred

Knowledge/Skills

  • Exceptional technical, analytical and problem solving skills required

  • Required Knowledge of: C#, C++, SQL

  • Preferred Knowledge of: WCF, REST, SOAP, ORMs, Python, Java, JavaScript, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, Configuration driven application Development, Version control and continuous integration principles, Message queuing systems, and IIS configuration

  • Windows Application Development

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience in Microsoft Access is a plus

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork

Other

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
