Information Technology Overview

The Information Technology division is composed of over 2,500 employees and contractors, and is made up of four portfolios:

  • Airline Operations & Shared Services

  • IT Business Management, Strategy & Architecture

  • Commercial & Customer

  • IT Operations & Service Management

The Information Technology division provides the unique opportunity to engage with all of United’s operational and business units.


Internship opportunities will be available across all four portfolios. Placement within the division will be determined during the selection process, depending on the candidate’s background and best fit. Tasks will vary by group and may include the following:

  • Exploration and proof of concept build-out of innovative business ideas

  • Performance Analysis

  • Vendor Management

  • Financial Analysis

  • SharePoint Administration

  • Process Analysis, Process Mapping and Workflows

  • Technical writing


  • Applicant must be enrolled in a current undergraduate program with a Junior standing or above, with an anticipated graduation of December 2018 or May/June 2019

  • Students from all fields of study will be considered, although coursework or experience in Business Finance, Economics or Management Information Systems is preferred


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge and background of Technology is encouraged

  • Solid interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork

  • Financial background

  • Knowledge and background in business capability and process modeling

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience in Microsoft Access is a plus


  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
