TECHNICAL OPERATIONS

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Study, analyze, and seek solutions to problems related to the structural design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification, or repair of aircraft, and their components. Use a structured, logical, and analytical approach in problem solving. Define maintenance program, configuration, and serviceability criteria ensuring safe and legal operations. Analyze and implement regulatory requirements. Evaluate the effects of structural modifications or new equipment on reliability and performance.

Evaluate the benefits of the cost impact of a fleet decision to ensure an optimum balance of cost, asset utilization, quality, and reliability. Author, design, test, and manage projects. Provide on-site technical support for line and base operations. Communicate with customers on technical issues, work scope recommendations, and failure investigations. Interface with internal and external organizations regarding specific aircraft, and component issues.

  • Organize and manage the priorities for assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work processes to meet all the deliverables for projects or maintenance program changes/technical specification revisions.

  • Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • This position develops potentially complex solutions and implementation plans, project justification, cost/benefit analysis, management of project implementation, technical support, and obtaining FAA approvals as required.

Required

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent relative work experience

  • Engineering skill sets which can be applied to a range of fleet and ATA specific aircraft or powerplant systems. These skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Analysis of complex technical issues, highly detailed level project development/management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems

  • Successful candidate will also have exhibited traits related to detailed cost/benefit analysis of projects, as well as effectively engaging stakeholders cross-functionally

  • Successful candidate will also have exhibited effective communication skills

  • Knowledge of FARs, airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics, aircraft materials and processes

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is essential function of the position

This position will be hired as either:

  • An Engineer-Level 6or

  • Senior Engineer-Level 5 or

  • Principal Engineer-Level 4

The selection will based on level of experience.

  • Engineer (level 6) requires entry level to 5 years of engineering experience

  • Senior Engineer (level 5) requires a minimum of 2-4 years at an engineer level or similar role elsewhere in the industry

  • Principal Engineer (level 4) requires a minimum of 3-5 years at a senior engineer level or similar role elsewhere in the industry
