Job overview and responsibilities

Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) Manager in Corporate Real Estate - Planning and Development: will assist in the development and maintenance of BHS standards; provide technical support to the project managers in Planning and Development for BHS related projects and initiatives in its seven hubs; provide technical input for airport sponsored projects in our line stations; support CRE regional Director’s and Project Managers with information on BHS projects.

BHS Standards and Specifications:

  • Work with stakeholders on maintaining United BHS Standards

  • Work with stakeholders and OEMs to develop new standards as new technology is integrated into United's BHS

  • Ensures all new BHS work complies with United's BHS standards and specifications

Planning and Development Technical Support:

  • Work with PMs on project development and formulation of scope for BHS related projects

  • Provide onsite project technical support for BHS related projects when requested by the project manager

  • Assist the PM with development of RFPs, budgets, funding requests and contract execution related to BHS project

Data Analysis and BHS Planning:

  • Provide the team with analysis of BHS capacity and demand when operational changes are made

  • Validate baggage screening capacity and demand when operational changes are made

  • Assist internal customers with developing capital plans related to BHS spend

BHS Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate and communicate TSA PGDS changes to the BHS team

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and OEM vendors to develop or integrate new BHS technologies into United’s BHS operations

Leadership

  • Establishes individual goals that align with departmental goals

  • Developing individual career development and training plans with leader

  • Use technical knowledge and experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects

  • Is able to communicate with cross functional teams with varying technical levels and must be able to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical team members

Required

  • Knowledge of BHS mechanical and control systems

  • Must be able to communicate information to an audience with varying technical knowledge across all levels within the company

  • Strong time mamagement and organizational skills

  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to resolve conflict

  • Build and manage interpersonal relationships while driving positive outcomes

  • Completion of 2 year accredited technical program or apprenticeship or 5 years equivalent experience

  • 4 + years experience in airport construction

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Understanding of TSA Planning Guidelines and Design Standards (PGDS)

  • Proficient in MS project and MS Office products including PowerPoint

  • Highly organized and able to work well under pressure

  • Dependable, reliable, flexible and ability to adapt to change

  • Ability to earn trust and respect from project's stakeholders

  • Ability to influence decisions that need to be made to make the project successful

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management

  • 4 + years work experience in small to medium BHS projects(<$50M) or 2 + years large BHS projects (>$50M)
