Overview

Managing Counsel for in-house legal department at worldwide airline providing guidance on all aspects of real estate related transactional legal matters (with a focus on real estate construction and leasing matters) and fuel procurement and other fuel related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Company’s primary real estate construction attorney independently handling a wide variety of transactional construction matters

  • Serve as Company’s real estate attorney for real estate leasing and other real estate transactions with airport authorities and other third parties

  • Provide sophisticated, knowledgeable and practical construction related counseling to internal Company business partners, including related to various construction related delivery methods

  • Provide sophisticated, knowledgeable and practical commercial leasing and general real estate related counseling to internal Company business partners

  • Negotiate and draft construction agreements

  • Negotiate real estate leases for airport facilities and other commercial real estate facilities

  • Serve as Company’s primary fuel procurement attorney independently handling a wide variety of fuel procurement and other fuel related matters

  • Provide advice and legal support for general commercial transactional matters, as necessary

  • Retain and manage outside counsel, as necessary, including budgetary responsibility for engagements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from an accredited law school required

  • Member in good standing of the bar in any jurisdiction of the United States required and, within a reasonable period of time, authorization to practice law in-house for the Company in Illinois or job location required.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Significant experience handling real estate construction agreements required

  • Experience handling real estate leases strongly preferred

  • Experience handling fuel procurement transactions and other fuel related matters strongly preferred

  • Experience with other commercial transactions preferred

  • Excellent time management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give practical, timely, clear and accurate legal advice required

  • Strong interpersonal communication abilities that enable individual to work effectively with a wide range of strategic, technical and practical aspects of business required

  • Comfort and proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple corporate functions while building strong personal relationships preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of ten years legal experience with real estate construction transactions/real estate transactions as primary practice area required

  • Legal experience with fuel procurement and other fuel related matters strongly preferred

  • Prior in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred

Other

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Company’s policies is required

  • Attendance is required at work location
