Corporate Safety

Help uphold the standards required to run a safe and successful airline. This department includes global aviation compliance, corporate investigations and field investigations, and teams that deal with the security of our facilities, aircraft and employees worldwide.

Job overview and responsibilities

This role has responsibility for the planning of our Corporate Emergency response drills and execution of that plan. Establishes and maintains critical relationships with government and regulatory agencies. Acts as the in-field leader in the event of a catastrophic event where United's Corporate Go Team is deployed.

  • Responsible for the corporate ER website as well as the oversight of the emergency notification systems and processes

  • Develops, schedules, communicates and facilitates corporate emergency response drills and tabletop exercises with scenarios to include United, United Express, Star and code share partners where United would be expected to respond

  • Ensures United’s regulations and the Corporate Emergency Response Manual are updated to meet regulation standards

  • Represents United in the Star Alliance Emergency Response Safety Advisory Group

  • Works with government agencies and industry committees to ensure consistency with the company's strategies, policies, and procedures

  • Provides support to United's Legal Department and outside government agencies with investigations and litigation.

  • Represents United and maintains relationship with National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) representatives and other government agencies such as the Department of State, Red Cross, Department of Transportation

  • Works with NTSB, other government agencies (domestic and international), and United divisions in managing the "technical side" of UA airplane hull loss accidents, which includes safety investigations at the site and site safety

  • Works with the emergency response business continuity planning team and cross divisional teams to develop and test emergency response and business continuity plans.

Required

  • Minimum of 5+ years emergency response/business continuity planning experience in the aviation industry and 1+ year of managerial experience

  • On call 24/7 as required for emergencies

  • Ability to travel on call as required for emergencies

  • Ability to travel up to 30%

  • Experience in training facilitation

  • Working knowledge and ability to execute on the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act of 1996

  • Experience developing and administering large scale emergency response drills and exercises

  • Familiarity and working knowledge of STAR Alliance partnerships

  • Ability to develop clear event after action reports

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in leading cross divisional project teams

  • Completed NTSB Training - TDA301 - Family Assistance

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • MBA

  • Project Management Professional Certification

  • Expertise in SharePoint and Spotfire tools

  • Multi-department corporate or operational airline experience

  • PMP Certification

  • 5+ years airline operational experience with focus on emergency response

  • 5+ years of project management experience
