The Senior Manager is a highly visible and critical role that supports the office of the Chief Digital Officer at United Airlines. In this role you will be responsible for leading a team that facilitates the planning, developing, and communication of key strategies and initiatives for the Digital Technology (DT) division. You will ensure each division understands our technology strategy, and your communications will enable our team to move strategically in the same direction.


  • Creates, coordinates, and oversees the framework for DT strategy development that aligns to business objectives

  • Works with DT organization leaders to determine and align short and long-term goals, identify areas of opportunity, risk, benefit and potential growth and implement action plans for division to achieve long-term objectives

  • Develops communication on behalf of the CDO and DT VPs ranging from Board of Directors to follow up correspondence related to various initiatives

  • Coordinates and executes plans for large-scale divisional events including leadership meetings and showcases.

  • Analyzes, aggregates, and aligns individual functional plans into consistent, consolidated 3-5 year IT division strategic plan, and translates strategy into operating/financial metrics

  • Leads research function to analyze and benchmark technology capabilities across industry, competitors and IT functions, and manages advisory services contracts/relationships

  • Conducts and assess risk/reward analysis and facilitates decision making meetings

  • Prepares analysis and develops proposals/recommendations for technology teams as appropriate

  • Helps manage the Digital Technology brand by discovering, writing and sharing important and inspiring DT success stories

  • Manages team of analysts and senior analysts; mentors the team through talent and skill development


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university required, preferably in business administration, economics, finance, or related field

  • Advanced degree in business (e.g., MBA), engineering, or information systems is preferred Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Demonstrated leadership success

  • Understanding of an IT organization’s functions, processes, best practices

  • Experience in a large-scale technology organization

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Comfort in working and dealing with uncertainty and information gaps

  • Strong business acumen, with analytical and problem-solving skills Preferred

  • Previous experience in strategy development, corporate communications, and technical writing

  • Project management

  • Strong influencing / negotiation skills Experience

  • 5+ years in strategic planning and technology-oriented analysis required

  • 3 years leading a small to medium-sized team

  • 3 years of relevant industry experience required Other

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
