As a Senior Software Engineer at United Airlines, you’ll play a crucial role in creating and maintaining the strategic partnership between business needs and technology delivery. Your role will be to plan, design, develop and launch efficient systems and solutions in support of core organizational functions. You’ll apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues, opportunities or problems in order to maximize the benefit of IT and Business investments. As a Senior Software Engineer you’re highly experienced and will have decision-making authority in this role. A self-sufficient individual, you should require no direct supervision, and mentors/coaches others.


· Works on complex projects that require subject matter expertise

· Develop appropriate software documentation as outlined in SDLC

· Support and troubleshoot software systems as required, optimizing performance, resolving problems, and providing follow-up on all issues and solutions

· Complete comprehensive unit testing on all developed/enhanced software

· Works/Consults across multiple projects; functions as a project leader

· Leads the software development team(s) during the design/build phases of the SDLC

· Provides direction, tools, technical and process support to less senior developers


· B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering and/or equivalent work experience required

· M.S. or equivalent preferred



· Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of:

o SDLC processes, inputs/outputs, standards and best practices

o Development methodologies, software design and design patterns, integration standards as well as its applicability at coding and testing cycles

o Software engineering best practices such as: versioning and versioning control, software packaging and software release management

o The application of development domain areas and specific technologies and tool set

· Demonstrate proficient knowledge of application architecture and architecture constructs as it connects to the enterprise architecture

· Proficient at developing or architecting solutions in the following technologies are required : .Net Framework, C#, Java, WCF, REST, ORM, MSMQ, SQL Server, Oracle 12g, Oracle RTD, WebServices, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, WebLogic, Java Beans, XML, XSL, XSD, JMS, JavaScript, WebAPI, Spring, Unified Modeling Language (UML), Multi-threaded Architecture, Continuous Integration/Delivery, Service Oriented Architecture, Object Oriented Architecture, ORM Implementation, IoC


· Have code on GitHub for personal or public open-source projects (attach links!)

· Exposure and knowledge in predictive analytics, machine learning, and big data

· Proficient at architecting small systems following the prescribed technology policies or architectural footprint

· Proficient at working problems of high complexity, medium size scope



· Recent, demonstrable experience with engineering large scale eCommerce products

· Experience in the implementation of design and architectural processes in an Enterprise Agile environment, spanning multiple geographic locations

· In-depth development experience with at least one other modern OO language such as: Java, Python, Go, C# or Ruby, Web Services, Web APIs, Microservices, Web-Sockets

· Solid experience with SQL and NoSQL based solutions

· Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript or Go

· 8 or more years of experience in application design, development and implementation of new computing architectures


· 1-2 years in Industry

· Experience and exposure with Oracle RTD, development, production support and RTD environment upgrade/maintenance


· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

· Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

· Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
