Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Author, revise and manage task cards and technical manuals used to accomplish scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of United aircraft. Establishes and maintains strong business relationships with Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering personnel and is an interface point of contact. Manages workload in accordance with business requirements to achieve maximum productivity and cost control. Is held accountable for work assigned and performed.

  • Create and maintain task cards that accomplish the approved maintenance program

  • Incorporate and manage approved Engineering changes in maintenance manuals, parts catalogs and wiring diagram manuals

  • Work with Maintenance Programs, Maintenance Task Planning, Engineering and QA to ensure compliance with program and regulatory requirements

  • Advise Engineering on technical manual and task card requirements for projects

  • Communicate with Technical Operations personnel regarding technical manual and task card feedback

  • Provide on-site assistance to United and contract maintenance personnel to support manual and task card content

  • Review and critique work packages produced by peer counterparts

  • Contribute to department strategic goals. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager


  • AS/Technical Degree or equivalent commercial or military aviation work experience

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems operation

  • Ability to interpret aircraft engineering documents, maintenance manuals, wiring and schematic manuals

  • Knowledge of electronic data management

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • 5 years commercial or military aviation maintenance experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • A&P License, Avionics, or BS in Aviation Management or Engineering

  • Knowledge of SGML or XML authoring and delivery

  • Knowledge of TRAX or Work Card Builder applications

  • Previous airline or military technical writing experience
