Maintenance I - Food Services: Honolulu, HI (HNL)

Job overview

The United Chelsea Food Services Maintenance I position is responsible for the on-going maintenance, repair and upkeep of the facility as well as the equipment in support of the daily airline and retail operation in the flight kitchen. This position is responsible for performing daily checks and inspections on all facility and equipment items. This position is expected to comply with all United training requirements, safety procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Additionally, the Maintenance I position will participate in safety meetings and support the Safety Action Team.


  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair kitchen equipment (refrigeration system, air conditioner and/or electrical items)

  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled work orders

  • Operate and/or check emergency generator and refuel as needed

  • Maintain Federal, State, City and county regulations

  • Blow down boiler and feed chemical

  • Contact necessary vendors to obtain cost-efficient bids or proposals in maintenance or repair as needed to maintain an efficient operation

  • Operate ice plant equipment and bag ice

  • Refill grease hood ventilator with detergent

  • Add salt to water softener equipment

  • Check and maintain pneumatic air lines and regulators

  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical appliances and equipment

  • Support unit in the Supply Chain Optimization initiative

  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • High School Diploma, GED or educational equivalent

  • Other trade licenses requirement may vary by location

  • Working knowledge in one or more trades related to building maintenance and repair (e.g. auto mechanics, boilermaintenance, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration or general building repairs, and of the machinery, equipment andtools necessary for the maintenance and repair of buildings

  • Ability to perform basic math skills

  • Ability to work in and communicate with all levels of associates

  • Ability to read, speak and write in English

  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, handtruck, pallet jack, baler, and other mechanical equipment


  • A minimum of three or more years work experience/certification training in one or more of the following trades; refrigeration, air conditioning and/or electrical work


  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be willing to work any shift in a 24/7 week, including weekends, nights and holidays

  • Must be able to obtain 10 year background security check

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
