Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Responsible for the strategic and tactical direction of the internal component repair shops.

  • Provides the leadership to a workforce in the repair and overhaul of components which may include: interior components, composite structures, inlets and thrust reversers, flight controls, mechanisms, sheet metal components, sheet metal fabrication, Avionics and Electrical components.

  • Directs efforts to improve production efficiency and throughput, to lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives, and to deliver on budget and within service level commitments.

  • Teams with Materials, Purchasing, Inventory Planning & Control, and Distribution/Storekeeping organizations to ensure that product required to support production requirements is readily available to enable the Component Overhaul and Repair organization to meet its scheduled output targets.

  • Directs the creation and implementation of strategic and tactical production plans that maximize product yield for the airline at the lowest cost and ensures a quality product.

  • Establishes the appropriate management systems to clearly identify accountability and production/delivery performance.

  • Establishes policies and procedures to ensure compliance with 14CFR part 121

  • Establishes policies and procedures to ensure good customer support and regulatory compliance with 14CFR part 145 work.

  • Incorporate, promote and manage third party customer work through the component shops.

  • Build / reinforce a fair and respectful work environment through consistent application of CBA work rules and company policies

  • Mentoring and coaching Production Supervisors to become effective and confident leaders

  • Execute performance goals and objectives aligning with divisional and company goals

  • Maintain a high level of awareness of operational, financial, compliance, safety and human resource related performance objectives

  • Builds and maintains professional and productive work environment for labor groups and management teams.

Required

  • BS / BA in Aviation Management, Engineering or related field or comparable experience

  • FAA A&P Certificate

  • 3 years’ experience in a leadership role within a large maintenance organization supervising a unionized labor workforce

  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations and maintenance programs

  • Strong Background and technical knowledge of component over haul and repair of composite, sheet metal, interior components and avionics

  • LEAN/Continuous Improvement experience

Preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
