This key position provides leadership and direction to the Baggage Handling department at United Airlines Los Angeles, CA.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading facility mechanics in Trouble-Shooting & Repairing Industrial PLC Control and Mechanical Systems supporting 24/7 operations of critical Baggage Handling System (BHS) / Check Baggage Inspection System (CBIS).

Partners with all local customer bases ensuring positive customer relations and service level goals achieved.


  • Support 24/7 of Baggage Handling System (BHS) and Check Baggage Inspection System (CBIS)

  • Document root cause of failure and ensuring best practices are implemented to prevent re-occurring system failures

  • Lead efficient and effective team maintenance operations in a positive, productive and safe work environment for maintenance teams. Develop and implement programs and policies that meet and exceed corporate cultural objectives.

  • Local total cost of ownership (TCO) and cost efficiency (2M+).

  • Maintenance planning and execution; preventative maintenance and mandatory projects, program compliance; productivity, accountability and dependability program management; safety and OSHA program compliance; local state & federal environmental code compliance; and (SLA) service level agreement compliance delivering the optimum level of facility maintenance in support of safe and reliable airline operations.


  • High School Diploma, GED or education equivalent required

  • Technical degree or 5 years in maintenance leadership position required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Science preferred


  • Financial planning and management preferred

  • Performance planning and management required

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) required

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in large department environment preferred

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills having a proactive management style: superior problem solver driven fro team excellence required

  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems required

  • Experience working with Smart Suite/Smart Sort or similar material handling reporting software preferred


  • Must be able to read / modify electrical schematics required

  • 5 Years' experience in a maintenance leadership role required

  • 2 - 4 years experience within a Baggage/Material Handling System preferred

  • Experience managing corporate and CBA policies preferred

  • Experience in planning, supervising, or leading facilities maintenance in an airline operation preferred


  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license

  • Must pass a background check including FAA clearances

  • Must be willing and able to work during day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
