Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The TIA team is looking for a creative, detail-oriented individual with strong data analysis skills to assist in the implementation of the scheduled maintenance programs for the United aircraft fleet ensuring packaging of program maintenance requirements that optimize aircraft safety, reliability, and availability. This is an entry-level position. The TIA team supports key Tech Ops initiatives that improve United's competitiveness. TIA partners with Line and Base Maintenance, Planning, Methods and Standards, Maintenance Programs, Aircraft Records and other Tech Ops organizations to implement maintenance program changes.

  • Assist in developing implementation plans and packaging requirements for new and revisions to existing maintenance programs

  • Determine the effect on Tech Ops and Networking of routine maintenance program changes and notify affected work groups of the pending changes and potential impact

  • Coordinate and sequence implementation of revisions to the maintenance program with all work groups that will be part of the implementation process, as well as the affected workgroups that will execute scheduled maintenance

  • Gather, Monitor and Analyze data from various sources, identify key issues and develop recommendations for new and existing program packaging and for improved yield efficiencies

  • Provide assistance working with maintenance programs in support of other divisions involved with new fleet type introductions, bridging of aircraft inductions and transfers, aircraft sales, lease returns and exits

  • Gather and analyze data from various sources to complete scheduled and ad-hoc reports and monitor and report status of implementation of approved maintenance program revisions

  • Mine data and identify key issues pertinent to analysis used in program packaging changes, and other projects to improve performance and efficiency of the routine maintenances program


  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis including college/university projects in this field

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate large amounts of data

  • Knowledge of database querying

  • Familiar with database structures

  • Adept in building effective presentations

  • Strong data mining and analytical skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Positive interpersonal skills

  • Able to work autonomously and learn from subject matter experts

  • Associates degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Aviation Management with a focus on quantitative analysis

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Aviation Management with a focus on quantitative analysis

  • Airframe, Power plant and / or E license

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification

  • SCEPTRE functionality knowledge

  • Strong Skills in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Understanding of airline maintenance operations

  • Understanding of commercial aircraft Maintenance programs

  • Project management skills

  • Source and scope new projects that will improve maintenance packaging efficiencies

  • Maintenance Program background and/or aircraft maintenance experience
