Job overview and responsibilities
Manager, Environmental Planning and Development, will be responsible for environmental planning, due diligence and compliance obligations associated with development projects at various locations across United portfolio of facilities. Manager is responsible for identifying, managing and reducing United’s environmental risk by implementing and overseeing both environmental compliance aspects of a construction project, and facilitating implementation of green building standards and other sustainability initiatives as appropriate for the respective project. Support other duties as assigned.
Project Involvement, Planning and Delivery - Accountable for environmental aspects of United’s development projects by implementing and overseeing tasks including, but not limited to, NEPA clearances, due diligence (i.e. Phase I and II ESAs), permitting (compliance, wetland, flood hazard area, etc.), and management of construction related spoils and wastes.
Minimize airline’s risk by meeting compliance obligations in regards to property acquisition and development projects.
Responsible for understanding and participating in lease reviews and negotiations in partnership with corporate real estate colleagues and airport authorities.
Reduce airline’s footprint by identifying and promoting sustainability initiatives as applicable to planning and development projects, including implementation of green building design standards.
Responsible and accountable for transparent, accurate, consistent project communication with leadership and project management teams. Other duties as assigned.
Coordination with Key Internal and External Stakeholders - Establish and maintain strong business relationships with airport leaders and United internal customers.
Act as liaison between corporate real estate partners, operating groups, regulatory agencies, station teams, and Environmental Affairs staff to maintain environmental compliance and implement sustainability initiatives.
Represent Environmental Affairs in project meetings as required to discuss compliance and sustainability initiatives as applicable to airline’s development projects.
Management of vendors and environmental consultants, including soliciting bids and budget management.
Professional Development and Team Engagement - Establishes individual and facility environmental goals that align with departmental goals.
Develop individual career development and training plans with leader.
Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects and environmental strategy.

Be accountable for providing transparent communication to your staff, Stakeholders and Leadership.
Bachelor's degree in environmental Science/Engineering/policy or similar, or comparable environmental work experience, with general understanding of environmental regulations
At least 5 years of environmental experience in due diligence, compliance, remediation, NEPA, wetland mitigation, redevelopment permits, construction waste management
Strong verbal and written communication skills; Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational and collaboration skills; Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, Sharepoint Oracle and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of environmental regulations related to construction and redevelopment; design and construction management process and vernacular; understanding of best practices of Project Management
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Knowledge of environmental regulations related to the aviation industry; green building standard experience focused on energy use reduction, health and wellness, or related area; background in construction safety
3-5 years Project Management Experience
Experience managing project teams
Airline, aerospace, or airport experience
Experience in implementation of green building design standards/ sustainable design elements
