Corporate Real Estate

The Corporate Real Estate team is composed of Planning and Development (formally called Design and Construction) and Airport Affairs. These two teams work together to secure lease spaces and manage all major construction and renovation projects at our hubs, stations and city locations across the world.

Job overview and responsibilities

  • Manage the development and implementation of carbon programs that drive progress toward United's environmental goals and compliance obligations.

  • This includes, but is not limited to, carbon market analysis and offset strategy development, collaborating with the Fuels team on forecasting sustainable aviation fuel supply, and working with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support company’s global environmental strategy, policies, and programs. Support other duties as assigned.

  • Manage internal efforts to define carbon programs that meet United's decarbonization goals and compliance obligations.

  • Efforts may include monitoring emerging carbon policies, relevant policy frameworks, carbon offset markets and options, compliance obligations, and options for achieving required or voluntary carbon reductions goals.

  • Collaborate with relevant United parties to define the business case and options for carbon responses to continuously refine United's decarbonization strategy, business case, and execution approach.

  • Ensure that you work effectively with teams creating policies and actions across varying company operations.

  • Ensure new requirements and policies applicable to your areas of oversight are timely understood and resulting programs developed with the input of all stakeholders.

  • Explore opportunities and sustainability initiatives that complement United's global environmental strategy and goals.

  • Assist in implementation and benchmarking of the decarbonization effort.

  • Engage corporate leadership on environmental initiatives and progress towards regulatory and sustainability goals.Engage key internal and external stakeholders in the management and continuous improvement of your program.

  • Collaborate with external regulatory and industry stakeholders to ensure that United's positions are articulated and achieve

  • Establish individual goals that align with departmental goals.

  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s objectives and initiatives.

  • Be solution-oriented and committed to creating and sustaining a culture of continual improvement and innovation.

  • Model integrity, possess self-awareness, and foster an environment of accountability.

  • Providing transparent communication to Leadership and Stakeholders.


  • Bachelor's degree or comparable environmental work experience with expertise in greenhouse gas regulations

  • At least 5 years of environmental experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills

  • Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Masters degree in business or environmental management or related area

  • 7 years of environmental experience

  • Airline and/or aviation experience
