Overview

The Manager of Income Tax will oversee the income tax compliance function and maintain overall responsibility for the operational effectiveness and continual improvement of the U.S. federal and international tax return preparation, process and audit defense. In addition to a prominent role on income tax compliance matters, this individual will proactively collaborate with the Senior Manager of Income Tax Accounting, Manager of State Income Tax and Director of Tax Research and Planning relative to the quarterly and year-end tax provision, Sarbanes-Oxley testing and ongoing tax planning opportunities. This individual will have overall responsibility for managing, mentoring and developing a team of tax compliance professionals and will report directly to the Director of Income Tax.

Responsibilities

The Manager of Income Tax is responsible for managing and improving the U.S. federal and international income tax compliance process. The candidate should be project management oriented and have strong leadership and development skills needed to manage and grow a team. This position reports to the Director of Income Tax, with direct supervisory authority over federal income tax and international income tax. Core responsibilities include:

Tax Compliance:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day income tax compliance process including the accurate and timely filing of the consolidated federal return, quarterly estimates, extensions and multiple foreign jurisdictions

  • Responsible for the transfer pricing process and coordination with local and foreign teams

  • Support the US tax examination and controversy process, including project management, assessment of proposed adjustments, and negotiation/settlement

  • Support the ongoing assessment of the Company’s tax and legal structure to identify new tax filing requirements, and any tax opportunities by means of restructuring, dissolving or merging existing entities

  • Manage departmental workload independently by monitoring and meeting all deadlines, while frequently apprising other team members and senior management of project status and problems encountered

  • Advise senior management of income tax consequences of business decisions and provide recommendations with regards to operational tax issues focusing on what is best for the company overall

  • Consult with Director of Tax Research and Planning on tax direction for business changes and issues, incorporate research direction into all compliance activities, and review deliverables with Director of Tax Research and Planning

  • Mentor and develop team membersTax Accounting:

  • Support tax forecasting and planning efforts by identifying and responding to business and tax law changes, to the extent they impact tax compliance and tax accounting

  • Participate in the quarterly and annual tax provision process and Sarbanes-Oxley testing. Assure the Company is compliant with all federal and foreign income tax reporting rules and regulations

  • Assist in the identification and utilization of various tax benefits in support of the tax planning functionTax Research and Planning:

  • Remain current on latest tax regulations through training, independent research, reviewing professional publications and establishing professional networks

  • Assist in the identification and utilization of various tax benefits in support of the tax planning function

  • Assist with corporate activity and provide related tax due diligence and assessmentsProject Management:

  • Develop and lead the implementation of systems and processes to improve the income tax compliance process and integration with income tax provision

  • Document and maintain tax policies and procedures for managing and executing upon an efficient and effective income tax function across the department and business segments

  • Identify and lead special projects within and outside of income tax compliance function

  • Manage outsourcing, co-sourcing, and consulting projects and maintain vendor relations

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent required

  • MSA, MST or JD preferred Certification

  • CPA required Knowledge/Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal income tax compliance rules and regulations required

  • Knowledge of ASC 740 (including uncertain tax positions)

  • Strong research and analytical skills required

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills required

  • Proven track record managing competing projects/deadlines and outstanding organizational skills required

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with hands-on experience managing and developing tax professionals required

  • Ability to identify operational areas for improvement, including use of technology, and follow through on the implementation of new processes required

  • Ability to interface at high levels and work collaboratively with cross-functional and cross-border teams required

  • Familiarity with the OneSource suite of tools, including OneSource Income Tax and Provision preferred

  • Working knowledge of transfer pricing concepts preferred

  • Experience with tax controversy management and audit defense preferred

  • Familiarity with foreign tax rules and regulations and/or experience with foreign tax research including treaty analysis is preferred Experience

  • 5 to 8 years of tax compliance and management experience in a Big 4 firm or large company’s tax department required
