The Finance department, which manages the company's budgets, forecasts and investments, and provides analysis of financial performance and strategies.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) department is responsible for overseeing United's budget and forecast, long-term business plan, capital plan and financial analysis. FP&A acts as a challenging business partner, working closely with each organization at United to provide financial and strategic support. Senior analysts within the Central Finance group are responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders representing nearly all facets of United’s business, while also being tasked with understanding broader industry dynamics and competitive strategies.

All senior analysts within the broader FP&A organization will gain in-depth exposure and experience in the airline industry, with assignments that may include:

  • Performing complex analyses, such as evaluating labor productivity or growth opportunities

  • Analyzing cost trends and resource utilization and developing relevant performance metrics

  • Supporting ongoing labor negotiations, including working with several internal stakeholders and attending negotiations around the country (as necessary)

  • Evaluating competitor financial performance and strategies

  • Assisting in development of Board of Directors materials


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related area of study

  • Minimum 2 years of analytical work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel and PowerPoint

  • Track record of outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to prioritize a range of responsibilities and adapt as business problems change

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Periodic travel required


  • Hyperion Planning, Oracle Financials experience

  • SQL, database querying ability
