Technical Operations includes the maintenance, repair and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Job overview and responsibilities
The Technical Operations Reliability team ensures United operates safely and dependably by analyzing aircraft defect and operational disruptions (i.e., delays, cancels, diversions) data. The team monitors trends to notify maintenance and engineering teams of emerging issues and probable corrective actions. Team also establishes key performance indicators and analyzes relationships between maintenance actions, aircraft systems and operational reliability.
Lead the identification, investigation and analysis of performance deterioration of airframe components and systems using qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Lead support for chronic aircraft and system identification.
Lead reliability, safety and maintainability improvements through comprehensive failure analysis and cost studies using reliability and quality principles, theories and concepts to develop reliability “playbooks.”
Be accountable for the FAA-approved Reliability Program.
Lead the evaluation of operational and reliability performance data and present systemic issues and corrective action recommendations to improve overall reliability of the United fleet.
Lead the monitoring and reporting of maintenance events and reliability data for regulatory compliance.
Lead creation of reports and issue storytelling in written, visual and verbal formats to executive leadership.
Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, mathematics, operations research, management science, engineering, economics
At least two years of experience in engineering, maintenance or analysis
Ability to structure an analytical problem and apply data to make operational recommendations
Design, tracking, and implementation of meaningful metrics that indicate successful operational execution
Development of cohesive narratives in presentation format
Must be willing and able to work a 24/7 schedule which includes nights, weekends or holidays
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Advanced degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, mathematics, operations research, management science, engineering, economics
Knowledge or experience in aircraft engineering or maintenance, particularly on United’s Airbus and Boeing fleets
Executive communication skills, particularly presenting in front of large groups of senior leaders
Data transformation and analysis using SQL or similar language
Data visualization using reporting software (i.e. Tableau, Spotfire)
Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies, including FAA and DOT
