Corporate Real Estate

The Corporate Real Estate team is composed of Planning and Development (formally called Design and Construction) and Airport Affairs. These two teams work together to secure lease spaces and manage all major construction and renovation projects at our hubs, stations and city locations across the world.

Job overview and responsibilities

  • Define and implement United's clean energy programs including, but not limited to, conservation, efficiency, renewable portfolio, and ground equipment fleet.

  • Collaborate across United business units to develop and implement a program that drives continual improvement in energy management across United's facilities, ground support equipment, and operations.

  • Recommend options for standard adoption, such as ISO 50001, and assess analytical implications using multiple business and environmental inputs.

  • Support company’s global environmental strategy, policies, and programs by collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support other duties as assigned.

  • Oversee a team of energy and environmental professionals in developing a clean energy strategy by assessing and defining programs that reduce energy consumption across United's operations.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders for continuous improvement with energy and greenhouse gas goals.

  • Provide an in depth understanding of current energy practices with respect to standards across multiple types of facilities within the United organization, presenting options for improvement.

  • Assess energy reduction and decarbonization opportunities, including electrification of ground support equipment, station energy assessments and subsequent actions, and renewable energy options.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and and station leadership to develop meaningful energy initiatives that meet individual station compliance and sustainability goals.

  • Provide ad-hoc energy support and education to stakeholders and engage with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to communicate our plan and incorporate feedback.

  • Continuously improve energy initiatives that complement United's global environmental decarbonization strategy and goals.

  • Ensure that goals and actions are incorporated into United's Environmental Management System (EMS).

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze and recommend agreements for United properties that have greenhouse gas reduction impact and are appropriate for each energy market.

  • Define priorities, programs, key performance indicators (KPIs), track progress toward all energy goals.

  • Support United's Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) with data collection, analysis and reporting, including supporting our internal controls to monitor compliance with both internal and external policies and regulations.

  • Create reporting templates that fulfill the requirements for CDP and other sustainability reporting.

  • Provide other economic or financial analyses as required for effective energy management.

  • Establish team and individual goals that align with departmental goals.

  • Oversee direct reports’ and self’s individual performance and improvement plans.

  • Coach, counsel, and assist employees to develop individual career development and training plans.

  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s objectives and initiatives.

  • Be solution-oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continual improvement and innovation.

  • Model integrity, possess self-awareness and foster an environment of accountability.

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable energy-related work experience with understanding of electricity management, energy efficiency, and sustainability

  • At least 5 years of energy-related experience

  • At least 1 year people management experience

  • Knowledge of project management and energy efficiency

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills

  • People management

  • Change management experience

  • Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills using Excel or other tools

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
