Job overview and responsibilities

Reinforce fast growing adoption of modern database technologies at United Airlines. Work with application development teams in design, architecture, testing, and launch of critical functions supporting customers on our digital channels. Become a trusted partner for technical teams providing guidance and support on NoSQL databases. Provide support and best practices to keep United platforms operational, healthy, and efficient.

  • 24 x 7 support and management of NoSQL databases

  • Configure, install, manage, tune, and support multiple NoSQL instances

  • Perform database maintenance, user assistance, troubleshooting and optimization. Key participant in capacity planning and growth projections

  • Perform application migrations to Couchbase - from lower environments to production including performance and functional testing

  • Define and implement backup and archival strategies per data retention requirements

  • Work with cross functional teams planning, modeling, and implementing solutions utilizing NoSQL technologies

Required

  • Detailed knowledge of NoSQL High Availability strategies - replica sets, sharding, failover

  • Working knowledge of NoSQL database implementation and configuration

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • BS in Computer Science and/or equivalent 10 years of work experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of Linux or Unix proficiency required

  • 4+ years of experience installing, configuring, and administering NoSQL databases required

  • Knowledge and experience on implementing database security

  • Familiarity on the use of Linux/Unix utilities to monitor processes, disk IO, CPU, memory, and network stats

  • Has good understanding of required infrastructure and network components supporting load balancing and cross data center failover

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Application development knowledge using .NET and/or Java

  • Coding skills with at least one of following: Python, PHP, Perl

  • Couchbase administrative experience highly desirable
