Job overview and responsibilities

The Principal Developer is a highly experienced IT professional who serves as the "go-to" technical expert in the domain. The Principal Developer is responsible for determining internal development standards, leading software development and design activities and acting as a champion for continuous learning, continuous improvement, and best practices across all software development activities within the domain. This position requires excellent communication skills, high motivation, self-direction, commitment, integrity, ability to multi-task, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and a deep knowledge of integration tools and techniques. The Principal Developer position is a hands-on role, actively engaged in planning, designing, developing and deploying efficient systems and solutions in support of the domain. This individual has decision-making authority within the domain. He/she is self-sufficient, requires no direct supervision, and mentors/coaches others.

  • Lead software development projects for mission critical efforts.

  • This position will encompass major enterprise projects as well as application teams focusing on the domain's highest priorities.

  • Serve as subject matter expert for internal and external teams in integration matters.

  • Help promote integration best practices and help teams align with long-term integration strategies.

  • Establish best practices and standards within the domain in alignment with Company standards.

  • Help teams establish mature and secure practices; ensure teams understand benefits of new ways of doing things; follow up to make sure the changes stick.

  • Ensure continuous learning among all software development teams in the department.

  • Keep teams looking forward to new ideas, techniques, tools, and frameworks.

  • Keep up-to-date with technology trends and make recommendations to guide the portfolio of development technologies in use.

  • Provide recommendations on adoption of new technologies and retirement of outdated technologies.​

  • Provide technical guidance to the development team.

  • Review and provide guidance on system requirements, design, and business processes to ensure alignment with IT and business strategies.​

  • Effectively communicate technical implementation details and plans to end-users, business customers, management and various stakeholders, either orally or in writing.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 5-9 years of relevant experience or a comparable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

  • C#, .net, restful web services

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to tailor messages to the audience (whether technical or non-technical, individual contributor to executive).

  • Excellent leadership skills; ability to influence and motivate others.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse, high pressure delivery environment

  • Advanced analytical, decision-making, and learning abilities.

  • Structured, disciplined approach to work, with attention to detail.

  • Flexible, able to effectively manage and respond to changing requirements and priorities.

  • Professional experience with a variety of programming languages, frameworks, and programming paradigms; a deep understanding of the trade-offs involved and proven experience in selecting “the right tool for the job.”

  • 3-5 years experience working in an Agile software development environment.

  • Experience with PCI applications and remediation

  • Familiarity with GDPR regulations and impact

  • Working knowledge of FinTech systems and technologies

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • PCI knowledge

  • Experience with micro-services-based architecture

  • DevOps knowledge

  • Airline experience

  • Experience working with large scale, mission critical, enterprise applications

  • Experience helping teams get up-to-speed with development best practices including: continuous integration/delivery, automated testing, source control, code review.
